Picutel Smart Resize is a Photoshop plugin for advanced photo resizing.Unlike ordinary resizing, Smart Resize can change the proportions (aspect ratio) of an image without introducing artifacts such as unnaturally tall or short people. This is accomplished by only rescaling the least interesting or important regions of the photo, leaving the more interesting regions untouched.
An example of the algorithm at work can be seen in these images, which show a photo before and after resizing. The resize operation has changed the proportions of the photo, but the subjects in the foreground have not been affected. Only the background has been rescaled, giving the impression of the people standing closer together.
